The plant protection product register is being modernised, we ask for feedback

| Plant protection productsAuthorization

The Plant Protection Products Register of the BAES lists the plant protection products authorised in Austria. It serves as a source of information and as a reference for professional users and farmers, as well as for the trade and private individuals. The register is now being revised technically and in terms of user-friendliness.

It is currently being revised on a new software basis so that it can continue to reflect digital developments in the area of plant protection product authorisation and control. Not only will the usability and comprehensibility be further improved, but the user interface will also be optimised for use on mobile devices. An expansion with further options (e.g. export of data, etc.) is also already being planned

New plant protection product register in test phase until 31 October

The test phase for the new plant protection product register of the Federal Office for Food Safety (BAES), which is being developed together with the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), will begin in July 2025. Feedback on the existing functionalities will be collected until the end of the test phase on 31 October 2025 in order to take initial practical experience into account in the further development of the new plant protection product register. During the test phase, the existing Plant Protection Products Register will continue to operate under the familiar Internet address (URL) so that the familiar information displays can continue to be used. After the end of the test phase, the existing Internet address will remain unchanged even after the restart, so that all previous links can remain unchanged.

What can I search for in the new pesticide register?

The BAES Plant Protection Products Register (PPP Register) is a public register. It publishes relevant information on authorised or approved plant protection products (PPPs) and their indications (uses) in accordance with Section 4 (2) of the Plant Protection Products Act 2011 (PMG). Since July 2025, the test version of the new PPP register can be searched by trade name, registration number, active substance and organism. In addition, the use can be restricted to "Home and allotment garden", "Professional" or "Both". In Q3 2025, extended search criteria will be made available in the test version; for example, it will be possible to search by "crop" or "harmful organism" in future.

What data will be displayed in the hit list of the new plant protection product register?

The hit list shows the registration number, trade name, active substances or organisms contained, the status of the plant protection product and any sell-by and use-by dates. Plant protection products are displayed as

Which documents can be downloaded in the detailed view of the new plant protection product register?

In the detailed view of a plant protection product, the register extract and previous versions of the register extract can be downloaded as PDF files. The previous version refers to the archive files of the register extract. These are created when an updated version of the register extract is created as part of a change.

Why can't I find any predefined search queries or download lists in the new Plant Protection Products Register?

The version of the new pesticide register currently available is still a test version that is still being developed. The data displayed corresponds to the current authorisation status in Austria, but not all query and search options are yet available. These will be added in the course of the 3rd quarter. These are extensions to the search function, predefined search queries and download lists. Extended query options will therefore also be available in the new PSM register in future or will be partially replaced by additional standard search functions. The scope of the queries will not be reduced.

As a user of the Plant Protection Products Register, why should I give feedback?

Please test the functionalities that are available in the test version. The functionalities will be expanded during the test phase from the 3rd quarter (extended search function, predefined search queries, download lists). Provide feedback on your requirements regarding predefined searches. Feedback is possible until 31 October. The previous Internet address (URL) of the Plant Protection Products Register will remain unchanged after the end of the test phase. The reason for this is that the new register can only be accessed via its own Internet address during the test phase. Once the previous register has been switched off at the end of the year, the new register will be accessible via the previous URL.
