The Federal Office for Food Safety (BAES) is the competent authority for the implementation of imports and exports in regard to marketing standards for fruits and vegetables, shelled nuts, cultivated mushrooms, bananas, eggs, poultry, hatching eggs and chicks as well as common marketing standards for certain fishery products, including the coordination of professional and technical control measures as well as any training of control bodies for import and export.
Further tasks include:
- Authorisation and audits of companies exporting fruits and vegetables.
- Nation-wide control of consumer information about fishery and aquaculture products.
- Domestic control on behalf of the Federal States.
- Presentation as well as cooperation in national and international organisations.
